Atlantic off Newfoundland, Massachusetts (Penikese); from Iceland (Vestmann Is.), Faroes and Shetland Is. s around British Isles to w France (Brittany); Azores, Madeira, Canary Is., Balearic Is. (w Mediterranean Sea), formerly Bermuda. Ranges at sea in Atlantic from breeding grounds s to Argentina and S. Africa, rarely to Australian and New Zealand region. Five species are frequently considered conspecific. |
