Ranges widely at sea through tropical Indian and Pacific oceans.

n to sw Chile (Chiloë).  Ranges widely through most of Pacific and Atlantic oceans n to Arctic Circle and Indian O. to se Africa.

Puffinus puffinus
Pelagic, breeding on islands in burrows, on rocky cliffs, and occasionally inland in mountains. 
Is. in N. Atlantic off Newfoundland, Massachusetts (Penikese); 
from Iceland (Vestmann Is.), Faroes and Shetland Is. s around British
Isles to w France (Brittany); Azores, Madeira, Canary Is., Balearic Is. 
(w Mediterranean Sea), formerly Bermuda.  Ranges at sea in Atlantic 
from breeding grounds s to Argentina and S. Africa, rarely to Australian and New Zealand region. 
Five species are frequently considered conspecific.
