We live in a world where people travel more widely than they ever have before. While doing so, they encounter many objects that are strange to them. For ornithologists, those objects tend to be birds !  Yet when we try to obtain local information about the birds of any area, we still often come up against a language barrier.  The literature about each country is still naturally written in that country's language.
 

The obvious answer - the one that Linnaeus saw over 200 years ago - is to have a universal language for naming the birds.
We have just that, a set of scientific names for all the birds. Yet that does not fully solve the problem. The scientist, reading the scientific literature, can know from the scientific names what species he or she is reading about. But virtually no one also is familiar with these names.

Even the scientist, when out birdwatching, normally uses the vernacular names for the birds. So, we need ready access to cross references between the vernacular names in different languages and the scientific names.

NEORNITHES: Nomina Avium, solves all this.

This programme enables anyone to rapidly discover the relevant vernacular name for any species. You only need to know the bird's name in any language for it to be possible to find the equivalent scientific name or its name in any other language.

If you use the work for this it will be useful to you. But if you only use it for this, you will be missing  a lot. For the programme provides much more than that. It enables  you to check the bird's classification, its world range, who named it and when and much more besides.

Once familiar with it, the programmes designed by Alberto Masi allow one to answer many  ornithological questions very rapidly.

 "Nomina Avium", is the result of prolonged and dedicated research.

It makes available for the first time a World List of Italian Names of Birds, thus filling an important gap in the ornithological literature.

Noi viviamo in um mondo dove la gente viaggia molto di più rispetto al passato.
In queste occasioni si scoprono cose nuove apparentemente insolite, straordinarie.
Per gli ornitologi, queste cose tendenzialmente sono degli uccelli !

Tuttavia, quando cerchiamo di ottenere localmente informazioni sugli uccelli di una qualsiasi area, ci troviamo spesso davanti ad una barriera a causa del linguaggio.
Naturalmente la letteratura di ogni Paese è scritta nella propria lingua.
L'ovvia risposta - quella che Linneo trovò più di duecento anni fa -  E' di avere un linguaggio universale per indicare gli uccelli .
Abbiamo già una Lista di nomi scientifici per tutti gli uccelli.
Tuttavia, questo non risolve completamente il problema. Gli studiosi leggendo la letteratura scientifica, sono in grado di capire di quale specie si tratti dal nome scientifico. Anche se nessun nome con il nome scientifico è familiare. Mentre l'appassionato, dedicandosi al "birdwatching", usa normalmente i termini comuni per indicare gli uccelli. Quindi, abbiamo bisogno di avere a disposizione riferimenti istantanei, nelle diverse lingue, fra i nomi comuni e i nomi scientifici.

"NEORNITHES:Nomina Avium", risolve tutto ciò.

Questo programma permette a tutti di individuare velocemente il nome di tutte le specie.
E' necessario soltanto conoscere il nome dell'uccello perchè sia possibile risalire al rispettivo nome scientifico o al nome comune in altra lingua.

Se lo si vorrà usare per questo scopo, risulterà molto utile.

Ma, usandolo solo per questo, saranno tralasciati molti dati poichè il programma ne fornisce diversi. Consente di controllare la Classificazione degli Uccelli, la loro Distribuzione Mondiale, i nomi scientifici delle Sottospecie e moltissime altre informazioni, interscambiando la ricerca dalla Gerarchia Tassonomica.

Presa familiarità, il programma realizzato da Alberto Masi, consente una rapida ed esauriente risposta ornitolo-
gica a molti quesiti.

"NEORNITHES: Nomina Avium", è il risultato di una appassionata e laboriosa ricerca.
Espone, per la prima volta, la struttura dell' Elenco Italiano degli Uccelli del Mondo, colmando un vuoto nella letteratura ornitologica.
