Numida meleagris
Open country in virtually all habitats except desert and forest. 
The following three subspecies groups are sometimes considered allospecies; they are in contact in various places and varying degrees of intergradation exist between them. 
N. m. meleagris
Ne Africa from Lake Chad e to Ethiopia, nw,s Somalia and s to ne Zaire,
n Uganda and n Kenya; extreme s Arabia.

N.m. reichenowi
of Kenya and Tanzania, a member of the mitrata group, occasionally has been recognized as a species. 
This species occurs in all African countries, exc. Djibouti. 
Introduced on the Gulf of Guinea Is., Comores, Madagascar, the Mascarene Is., West Indies and many other islands, worldwide.-

 Faraona maschio: bargigli rivoltati in avanti. 
 Nella femmina  i bargigli sono più piccoli, dritti e ben affiancati 
 sotto la testa .
