Open country in virtually all habitats except desert and forest. The following three subspecies groups are sometimes considered allospecies; they are in contact in various places and varying degrees of intergradation exist between them. Introduced on the Gulf of Guinea Is., Comores, Madagascar, the Mascarene Is., West Indies and many other islands, worldwide.- - -
