    Tauraco persa  GUINEA TURACO.  Forest, savanna.  Senegambia, s Mali, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, s Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, s C. African Rep., nw Zaire and s to sw Zaire and nw Angola.

    T. persa, schuettii, schalowi, fischeri, livingstonii and corythaix are closely related, but there
    is no evidence of intergradation where two or more are in contact.
    Dowsett and Dowsett-Lemaire (1993) discuss "The Tauraco persa complex" and provide support for the recognition of the six species listed above.
    Other authors have included all six in T. persa, or in combinations of five or three species.

    Tauraco schuettii  BLACK-BILLED TURACO.  Humid forest.  Zaire and n Angola e to s C. African Rep., s Sudan, Uganda, w Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and w Tanzania.
    Tauraco schalowi  SCHALOW'S TURACO.  Humid forest.  W,c,s Angola, se Zaire, Zambia, Malawi, sw,nc Tanzania and sw Kenya s to extreme ne Namibia (Caprivi), n Botswana and ne Zimbabwe.
    Tauraco fischeri  FISCHER'S TURACO.  Humid forest.  Coastal forest from s Somalia s through e Kenya to ne Tanzania.
    Tauraco livingstonii  LIVINGSTONE'S TURACO.  Humid forest.  Burundi and Tanzania s through Mozambique, s Malawi, e Zimbabwe and extreme e S. Africa.
    Tauraco corythaix  KNYSNA TURACO.  Humid forest.  Occurs in the narrow strip of forest in ne,e and s S. Africa from ne Transvaal s through Natal and w to s Cape Province and in adjacent s Mozambique.

    Tauraco erythrolophus  RED-CRESTED TURACO.  Woodland, savanna.  W,c Angola.
    Tauraco macrorhynchus  YELLOW-BILLED TURACO.  Forest, dense second growth.  Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, sw Cameroon, Gulf of Guinea Is., Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, sw Congo Rep., Cabinda and sw Zaire.
    Tauraco leucotis  WHITE-CHEEKED TURACO.  Humid forest.  Highlands in Ethiopia, Eritrea and  extreme se Sudan.
    Tauraco ruspolii  RUSPOLI'S TURACO.  Juniper forest with dense evergreen undergrowth.  Highlands ca. 1800 m of sc Ethiopia.

    Tauraco hartlaubi  HARTLAUB'S TURACO.  Humid forest, edge, riverine forest.  Highlands in Uganda, Kenya and ne Tanzania.
    Tauraco leucolophus  WHITE-CRESTED TURACO.  Humid forest, edge, open woodland, acacia scrub.  From e Nigeria e across Cameroon, sw Chad, C African Rep., s Sudan and ne Zaire to n,ne Uganda and nw Kenya.
    Musophaga johnstoni  RUWENZORI TURACO.  Bamboo, podocarp forest.  Mts., 2300-3350 m, in Kivu-Ruwenzori ranges of ce Zaire, sw Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.  Placed in Tauraco by the East African List Committee (D. A. Turner, pers. comm.) and in Ruwenzorornis by Dowsett and Dowsett-Lemaire (1993).
    Musophaga porphyreolopha  PURPLE-CRESTED TURACO.  Open woodland, thorn scrub riverine forest, humid forest.  S Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and ne S. Africa.  Placed in Tauraco by the East African List Committee (D. A. Turner, pers. comm.) and by Dowsett and Dowsett-Lemaire (1993).
    Fry, et al. (1988. Birds of Africa, vol. 3) place this species and johnstoni in Musophaga.

    Musophaga violacea  VIOLET TURACO.  Open woodland, riverine forest, humid forest edge.  Senegambia, sw Mali, Burkina Faso, s Niger, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, c,n Cameroon (absent from Sierra Leone); isolated population along Chad-C. African Rep. border.
    Musophaga rossae  ROSS'S TURACO.  Open woodland, riverine forest, humid forest edge.  From c,e Cameroon, Gabon, C. African Rep., ne Zaire, s Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and w Kenya s to c Angola, Zambia, n Botswana and w Tanzania.

    Corythaixoides personatus  BARE-FACED GO-AWAY-BIRD.  Acacia savanna, woodland.  From nc Ethiopia s through w Uganda, w Kenya, ce,se Zaire, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Malawi to ne Zambia.
    Corythaixoides leucogaster  WHITE-BELLIED GO-AWAY-BIRD.  Dry acacia savanna, woodland.  From se Sudan, c,e Ethiopia and nw,s Somalia s through e Uganda and Kenya to c,ne Tanzania.
    Crinifer piscator  WESTERN GREY PLANTAIN-EATER.  Savanna, acacia bush.  S Mauritania, s Mali, Senegambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, s Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, C. Afr. Rep., s Chad, Congo and nw,sw Zaire.
