Relationships between blue-throated and green-throated and between long-tailed and short-tailed populations are not clear; in some areas they appear as color morphs, in others they are stable and allopatric.
Chalcostigma purpureicauda and its synonym, Zodalia thaumasta, known from single specimens from "Bogotá" and Ecuador, respectively, are apparently hybrids A. kingi x Lesbia victoriae.
